Why are Plus, Goodwill and Refund tokens being transferred into £45 worth of credits instead of the current £54 value?

With a Plus subscription, you benefit from an inclusive Plus token which has a net value of £45 (£54 including VAT).  The value of the Plus token is therefore not £54, as the VAT element is something that Unbiased is obligated to collect and declare to HMRC.  When your Plus subscription is paid, this creates a tax point and the VAT is due to HMRC.  When you use your Plus token to accept an enquiry currently, this does not create a subsequent tax point.

For Refund and Goodwill tokens, again the value of the token is £45.  Given that £1 is equal to 1 credit and a token has a value of £45, we will convert your refund or goodwill token into 45 credits.

If you purchase additional tokens, VAT is applied to the purchase of the tokens and again when you use those purchased tokens to accept an enquiry, VAT is not charged again.

Going forward when you accept enquiries using credits, the same principles will apply.  Given that £1 is equal to 1 credit and a token has a value of £45, we will convert your Plus token into 45 credits.  VAT will only be applied to the purchase of credits (which you pay for in GBP), not for the acceptance of an enquiry using credits.  Going forward, 1 credit has a net value of £1 (£1.20 including VAT).  If you want to buy additional enquiries and do not have sufficient credits available in your account, you can either add credits in advance to your account or purchase credits at the point of accepting an enquiry and VAT will be applied because you are purchasing credits.  Accepting enquiries and using credits to pay for enquiries will not have VAT applied.
